Teachley Fractions Problem Solving Software

Did you know that half of U.S. 8th graders are not able to correctly order three fractions, a 4th grade standard?*IES, 2011

That’s why Teachley recently partnered with HITN Learning, a division of the Hispanic Telecommunications and Information Network, to help kids, especially children in under-resourced communities, better connect with and engage more meaningfully with fractions. One 4th grade teacher in NYC noted, “Because the problems are so relatable, it’s easier for them to do it.”

Our latest software allows students to draw models of fractions to help them think deeply and solve fractions word problems. In a recent study with 140 3rd-5th grade students, Teachley’s software helped improve fractions problem solving by 20% after just 3-5 math sessions.

Student solutions to a problem of splitting 5 loaves of bread amongst 8 friends. One shows each loaf split into 8 pieces. Another shows 4 loaves split in half and the last split in eighths.

Teachers all agreed or strongly agreed the Teachley software is easy to use and implement in the classroom, supports their school’s goals for enhancing math achievement, and improves student outcomes. One fifth grade teacher said, “My students tend to struggle with fractions, but with the assistance from Teachley, my students grasped a better understanding on how to solve problems involving fractions.”

Teachley’s fractions problem solving software is now available for use on Chromebooks and other computers through our web-based student login, allowing for easy access at school and home.
