New Study Shows Strong Results for Tutoring with Teachley Math
High-dosage tutoring is one of the most effective strategies for accelerating math learning—especially for students who have fallen behind. With support from Accelerate's Call to Effective Action grant, Teachley developed Tutoring with Teachley Math, a small-group tutoring program that combines hands-on instruction with adaptive digital games to build number sense, fact fluency, and problem-solving skills.
The Center for Research and Reform in Education (CRRE) at Johns Hopkins University conducted an independent evaluation of the program with 105 students in grades 2–4 across two New York City charter schools during the 2024–25 school year. Using a randomized controlled trial design, researchers found that students who received tutoring significantly outperformed the control group, with an effect size of +0.33 on the i-Ready Mathematics assessment. The study also found that tutors felt well-prepared, students were highly engaged, and teachers observed students applying what they learned during regular classroom instruction.
